Uber Accidents and Your Insurance

A recent spate of serious auto injuries in Miami, Florida involving the ride-sharing companies, Uber and Lyft, underscored the need for passengers and other motorists to have underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage in the event of a property damage or injury accident.  In one accident with a Lyft driver, a motorcyclist was ejected and killed.  In another accident with an Uber driver, a couple visiting from North Carolina were both injured with the woman suffering serious brain injuries.

The Dangers of “Lapping Up” in Car Accidents

A recent tragic car accident in Dubai resulting in the deaths of two Northeastern University students may have been prevented if the students and the two other passengers in the 2-seat Ferrari had chosen a more suitable or larger vehicle.  A Dubai prosecutor intimated that two of the individuals were “lapping up” or apparently sitting in the laps of the other two and had been drinking.  The driver was travelling around 40 miles per hour in a 25 mph zone when it jumped a curb and hit a pole.
