Massachusetts Pike Rollover Truck Carrying Bananas

A rollover accident on the Massachusetts turnpike in early October resulted in a spill of thousands of bananas and the leaking of about 100 gallons of gasoline from the overturned truck. State police were forced to close eastbound lanes at Exit 18 for 9-hours while the bananas were recovered, and absorbent used to neutralize the diesel fuel. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. There were no details about what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Westborough PD Praises Seat Belt That Saved Driver in Crash

A crash in early August on Route 9 in Westborough that fortunately only resulted in minor injuries to the driver who was wearing a seat belt drew unusual praise from the Westborough Police who also warned people about the dangers of texting and driving.

Rise in Boating Accidents During Pandemic

Summer in the Northeast, and especially in Massachusetts, is an opportunity for thousands to enjoy water sports or to get a boat into a harbor, lake, river, or pond. But this summer has seen an unprecedented spike in the number of boaters and, unfortunately, a commensurate rise in boating accidents.

Man Charged in Fatal Brockton Hit and Run Crash

In early August, a 55-year old woman in Brockton, Massachusetts was crossing Centre Street near the entrance to Brockton Hospital around 9:00 p.m. when she was struck and killed by a man driving a Chevy Tahoe. The suspect left the scene only to turn himself in to police about an hour later.

Hundreds Cited Since Massachusetts Distracted Driving Law Took Effect

After 17-years of negotiations, bills that stalled and failed in the Assembly, and pleas from safety advocates, the Massachusetts Assembly passed a bill with teeth that addressed the growing epidemic of distracted driving. It took effect in February 2020 with officers initially issuing warnings to distracted drivers. In late March, officers began citing drivers who violated the new law.

Grants Will Help Fund Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Upgrades

Four cities—Norwood, Plymouth, Lawrence, and Westford– recently received grants from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation as part of the Shared Streets and & Spaces program. These grants will enable these municipalities to implement or make design changes to streets, curbs, parking spaces, and parking lots. Its aim is to promote the public health, to facilitate bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety, and make it easier to access businesses.

Fall River Woman 81 Dies After Being Struck by Car

In an apparent distracted driving case, an 81-year old Fall River, Massachusetts woman tragically died from fatal injuries suffered while crossing Bedford Street in Falls River. She was struck by a 2015 Ford Freestyle SUV that was driven by a 19-year old young man.

Concord Fatal Crash

A four-vehicle crash in Concord, Massachusetts this summer resulted in fatal injuries to an 87-year old Concord woman. The accident occurred around 2:50 in the afternoon on Route 2 near Sudbury Road. All four vehicles were in the eastbound lane of Route 2 when traffic began to slow. A 2014 Jeep Cherokee driven by an Arlington man apparently failed to notice the slowing traffic and slammed into the rear of a Honda Civic driven by the 87-year old victim. Her car was propelled into a 2020 Toyota Corolla that in turn rear-ended a 2014 Ford Taurus.

Lexington Center is the hub of the town of Lexington, Massachusetts and is positioned around Massachusetts Avenue. It is well-known as the site of the Battle of Lexington, the first battle of the American Revolution, with a visitor center that attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
