Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers Clients’ Security Board 2014 Awards

The Massachusetts Security Board announced in its 2014 report awards to victims of Massachusetts’ attorneys’ theft.  The number of awards was significantly higher in 2014, with a total of 114, than 2013 when there were only 69.  On the other hand, the actual awarded monies, $1.3 million, were only about half of the previous year’s awards of $2.8 million.

Massachusetts Accidents: Contest to Promote Safe Driving to Avoid Accidents

Wrongful Death Suit Filed Against Red Bull

Can sweet caffeinated beverages marketed to youth result in wrongful death?  On a November evening in 2011, 33 year old Cory Terry was playing basketball with friends when he collapsed soon after complaining of light-headedness.  Mr. Terry later died, the official cause of death being “idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy,” which means his heart stopped.  Apparently he drank a Red Bull less than an hour before.  And he drank it regularly.

Pedestrians Injured All Around Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Transportation is increasing efforts to bring awareness to pedestrian and bicycle safety by its April 2014 launching of the “Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Awareness and Enforcement Program.” This program includes allotment of almost half a million dollars in funding to twelve Massachusetts communities for the purpose of “identification of infrastructure improvements that are needed to improve safe travel for all modes.”

Severe Dog Bites in Massachusetts

In August 2014, an 18-month old Massachusetts boy was sent to the hospital after being attacked by the family dog while they were staying in Florida. Reports state that he suffered “significant facial wounds” and the dog in question had not before shown aggressive behavior towards the boy. Summer is a great time to be outside, take walks, spend time in the yard, and generally enjoy the weather. Dogs are often times not excluded when it comes to this; they can appreciate those simple joys as much as their owners can. However, this could mean that there is a higher risk for dog bites. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that approximately 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs each year.
