Formed in 1999 as The Cape Verdean Task Force, CVC Unido is the only Cape Verdean agency in the City of Boston. In 2004, The Cape Verdean Task Force changed its name to CVC Unido in an effort to underscore the fact that the agency was a vibrant community agency serving the greater Boston Cape Verdean community.

CVC Unido's core purpose and mission statement is to outreach, inform, and organize the Cape Verdean community around issues of self-empowerment and social and economic development, while advocating for, and accessing resources that meet the self-identified needs of the community. It is CVC Unido's core strategy to become a respected and well known organization that has access to resources, is politically connected, and is able to support a wide array of services targeted to meet the needs of Boston's Cape Verdean community.

On October 28, 2009, CVC Unido held a community meeting at Saint Patrick's church in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Approximately 60 community members and supporters attended, and 6 new Board members were introduced. The meeting also identified current issues and concerns of the Cape Verdean community.

The Board of Directors is set to meet again on January 19, 2010. At that time, the Board will further discuss governing organization and structure, as well as fundraising, and community outreach projects. Check back next month for updates regarding the Board meeting and CVC Unido's continued efforts regarding Boston's Cape Verdean community!
